Purpose and aesthetic go hand in hand for Matthew when creating gowns for his clients. He understands the importance of the moment that his designs are intended for, which is why he puts such emphasis on the individual beauty for the bride-to-be. By listening to the bride’s needs and applying them with his impeccable fit, the Matthew Christopher brand has become a mainstay in bridal wear.In this particular blog, Matthew communicates directly with followers, to let them know a little more about how he is able to do what he does in the design process.

1. Does designing ever feel repetitive at any point? What keeps you inspired?

I am inspired by travel, architecture and nature and of course, LOVE!

2. Is there one particular piece of advice you would give to every bride when choosing a gown?

I encourage brides to wear the right silhouette for their body.

3. What does the 2015 “Reflection of Inspiration” Collection say about you as a designer?

I have grown throughout my career by listening to the bride. I listen to their styles and tastes and try to incorporate those important details into my work. I have definitely become more creative in my design process.

4. Do you have any pet peeves? What do you try to keep brides from doing and how does that influence your work?

Don’t take so many pictures on the iPhone, believe in what makes you feel beautiful. Don’t try on too many gowns, it will just muddy the water and don’t be overly influenced by your peers. It’s your day!

5. What has been your favorite part of creating this collection?

I have loved being in the workroom, with the fabric, embroidery, beading and lace and I also love working closely with the pattern maker.

6. What is the consistent theme or creative element seen throughout your work?

The way that I fit a woman’s body and accentuate the female figure.

7. How does “love” translate as a creative theme in this collection?

Love is in everything I do.
